Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir

Glasgow Islay Junior Gaelic Choir

It is a proud boast that the Glasgow Islay Junior Gaelic is now the only Gaelic choir for youngsters within the city of Glasgow  outwith the educational system.

For 17 years, until the Royal National Mod in Dunoon 2012, the choir was conducted by Jane MacQueen and the present conductor is Skippinish member Robert Robertson.  Robert won the An Comunn Gàidhealach Mòd Gold Medal in 2013 and, in the same year, was named Up and Coming Artist of the Year at the MG Alba Scots Trad Awards.

Like the senior choir the juniors attend the National Mod and they usually compete at some Local Mods as well as performing at the Joint Annual Concert of both choirs.

Many of the current members attend Gaelic Medium education but the knowledge of Gaelic or the ability to read music are not requirements.

Assistance with Gaelic is provided by a Gaelic Reader.

In 2004 the Junior Choir produced their own CD "Cho Priseil na h-Oige" and they have also travelled to Nova Scotia to take part in Celtic Colours.

New members are always welcome.

Rehearsals take place at Sgoil Ghaidhlic Glaschu on Monday evenings from 6pm.
